You can read all about SXSW here, but here some facts about SXSW Interactive Web Awards.

This SXSW Interactive Web Awards is really different from “The actuall” SXSW music/film festival… BUt of course it is really super related..

South by Southwest (SXSW, Inc.) is a private company based in Austin, Texas, with a year-round staff of professionals dedicated to building and delivering conference and festival events for entertainment and related media industry professionals. Since 1987, SXSW has produced the internationally recognized Music and Media Conference & Festival.

The SXSW Interactive Web Awards are judged in two separate rounds.

After all entries are received, the first round of judging selects a group of five finalists in each of the categories.

The second round of judging picks the top site from each of these groups of finalists.

Entries are given a score of between 1 and 10 in each of the above criteria and the finalist sites are those that achieve the highest cumulative score.

As the panel of judges are comprised of individuals from around the country and across the world, all judging is accomplished via a special, online interface.

Judges decisions are final.

This year’s competition is open to all sites launched or redesigned in the calendar year 2008.

The only exception is the “Classic” category, which consists of sites launched before January 1, 2008.
