Pre-Need Companies in Danger?

Just as I am thinking of getting an educational plan for my Sean, this news came in:

I already have an educational plan for Matthew (which I just paid my 3rd year annual last Thursday). I am thinking of getting one for Sean with Prudential but now, I’m thinking of just investing the money on a financial instrument that will earn the needed amount for Sean’s college education.. A college fund if you will.

Any idea, suggestions?
