First Google Adword Experience: The Setup

by jacaranda on April 29, 2010

I finally tried activated my Google Adwords last night. I have this account for a long time now but it’s not active since I haven’t entered my billing information. For those who are not familiar with Adwords, one of the requirement for it to be activated is to enter your credit card info.

If I remember correctly, I was able to setup a test ad but it never became active because of the billing info. But like I said, yesterday I finally decided to give this PPC Google Adwords  a try.

When I created my first ad (well, it’s the second one  but I deleted the first), the ad was put into ‘under review’ status. It apparently will be reviewed by Google.

Then this afternoon, after checking my Adsense earning I took a peek of the Adword campaign management and saw that the ad was approved.

Creating an Adword Ad

Creating an adword ad is as simple as filling up 4 text fields – The Ad title, Ad description, Website URL and the URL of the landing page.

Once  your ad is built, you’ll pick up keywords for your ads. These are the key phrases that will trigger your ads to appear in the Google SERP (or gmail, or youtube wherever Google is, which is basically everywhere).

Another criteria as to where your ads will appear is the language and location.  There are also some advance settings you might want check out. Schedule: Start date, end date, ad scheduling, Start date

Besides the ads, other settings that you will come across is the maximum daily budget for the campaign, which I think personally is a great idea so that we can control how much we will be spending on Adwords.

Anyway, that’s about it.. Oh, one last thing once you’re approved, you’ll be billed (your first expense!) Php300 (if you’re here in the Philippines) or approx $7!

I already setup my Sales page and Thank you Page for my product and I’m waiting for my Clickbank approve it. Once all is done, we’ll find out how this Adword thing really works… or not work.
